Use of Natural Lighting Methods in sustainable Architecture in Ancient Egyptian Civilization

Abstract

This paper looks at achieving natural lighting in ancient Egyptian architecture by applied sustainability thousands of years ago: Ancient Egyptian civilization was able to be renewable through using sustainable architectural elements, Ancient Egyptian Architecture based on two phenomena (continuity& originality), According to Egyptology researchers Egypt is one of the oldest historical civilization, as its roots extends to prehistoric Era. it has the ability to preserve its character through the history the study pointed to the concept of natural lighting, the economic importance of using natural lighting; as identifying the factors affecting of natural lighting to achieve sustainability, then presenting the sustainable architectural elements that ancient Egyptian used to provide lighting in architecture.

One of the most important architecture solutions have been doe by the ancient Egyptian was the natural lighting. he thought about controlling the amount of light entering the space according to the required function. As an example, in temples, the coal of distributing light was to provide a mystery and sanctity impact to the space. Therefore, the windows were narrow and small; as in temple of Habu.
