Abstract

Smart facades represent one of the leading innovations in the field of modern architectural design, especially in metal structures, where these facades have become an active role that goes beyond aesthetic aspects to perform pivotal technical and environmental functions. Among the most prominent functions of smart facades are lighting control, ventilation and thermal insulation, which directly contribute to reducing energy consumption and enhancing sustainability standards. This research aims to monitor the applications of the basic functions of smart facades of metal structures. The importance of research comes in that the integration of smart facades with metal structures is an important environmental requirement as metal structures are inherently conductive to heat and are affected by environmental factors quickly, which makes the presence of smart facades necessary to adjust the thermal and environmental performance of the building. These interfaces rely on advanced technologies such as electromechanical glass, climate-responsive systems, and smart sensors that measure temperature, humidity and solar radiation to automatically adjust the façade characteristics. The research problem stems from the need to derive applications of the basic functions of smart facades for metal structures so that they change the degree of transparency or reflectivity of the sun depending on the intensity of the lighting. The research found that smart facades contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of facilities, using sustainable or recyclable materials, improving indoor air quality, and reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
