Abstract

The smart phone now plays several media roles for its users from all categories, including following-up of daily news and events through multiple news windows such as digital platforms, applications and internet sites that provide news content in many forms such as visual, audio and read forms. However, with this trend, it has become necessary to increase attention and focus on designing news smartphone applications through an effective experience.

The importance of the research topic and its problem comes from the lack of studies on the design of Egyptian news applications. We need to monitor and analyze the elements of the user experience for These applications and determine how the interface of these applications is compatible with the design identity of their newspaper or news site.

The objectives of the research are to determine the current status of Egyptian smart phone applications for news, and to examine user interface design and experience for those applications by monitoring and analyzing their elements, then identifying their strengths and weaknesses, propose solutions for enhancement, evaluate user satisfaction and usability, study user preferences and needs.

In order to achieve the research objectives, a survey study was conducted on Egyptian news smartphone applications, followed by a comparative critical analysis on a selected sample of these applications to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, a field study was carried out on users to determine their satisfaction with the usability of these applications, assess their preferences, analyze their tendencies, and understand their needs and desires.
