Abstract

This research presents an analysis to the Significant role of the first impression as one of the most important methods of innate differentiation (inside the human mind) between “design” artifacts made by the designer that are objective and “non-design” artifacts made by the artist that are subjective, such as Design For Material and Design For Industry and Design For Technology. Using the theory Recognition-by-components (RBC), which deals with the working between perception, which is the reception by senses of an object, and mental Recognition, when confronted with a situation and/or an object, which is a mental analysis to reach understanding and form an immediate judgment. The research also discusses the vision of some professors of industrial design, Don Norman and Dieter Rams who discussed concepts that mimic the concept of the first impression in design, such as Affordance and Understandable Design. Through this, we conclude that through wisdom based on the integration between sufficient knowledge, stereotypes, schemes, and the Conceptual Model of specialists, and their awareness and good understanding of the objects around them, they are Able to differentiate by first impression.
