The Biskra region of Algeria is considered one of the architectural witnesses that still retains its traditional architectural character, the terracotta architecture being the expressive witness of its civilization. Construction technology and mastery of building materials in terracotta architecture played an important role in highlighting local architecture.
The introduction of new materials, such as iron, cement and others, as well as the introduction of new technologies with imported ideas and theories, played an important role in the emergence of multiple and diverse buildings, foreign to the local environment and without roots. or origins, which has led to a breakdown in cultural communication. In response to this, cultural values had to be rooted in terracotta architecture, in order to achieve cultural continuity.
The preservation of terracotta monuments in southern Algeria is considered a major challenge faced by the various actors responsible for heritage protection, given the great difficulty and numerous risks to which this type of architecture is exposed. , notably natural and human factors, even if some countries have made great efforts. progress in the protection of their terracotta architecture, and in this context was born from the experience of rehabilitation of the buildings of the Palace of Lishana, located in the State of Biskra, by a group of professors and students and the Lishana Tourist Association, which is a voluntary initiative.
