Sustainability in Emirati heritage Architecture between past and present

Abstract

This paper looks at achieving sustainability through the impacts of heritage architecture on modern architecture through the natural environment, climatic conditions, that influenced both heritage and modern architecture in the United Arab Emirates, which played an important role in forming several kinds of architecture such as (Desert- mountainous – coastal).

Each of them has its own architecture features and treatment according to the environment and the climatic conditions. Paper also deals through a field study of heritage area (Bastakiya area) as an example of sustainable coastal architecture .by focusing on the building material's, treatments and architecture elements of the Heritage architecture in the UAE was formed in response to several determinants, and developed through several factors. It produced an architectural character distinguished by its local characteristics, and greatly influenced by two important factors: the climatic factor and the factor of availability of building materials. The main feature that distinguishes heritage architecture has always been the climatic factor. heritage architecture in U.A.E
