Consolidating the Arab identity by integrating Saudi and Egyptian heritage ornaments and employing them on hotel worker’s clothes

Abstract

Every nation has a heritage that preserves its identity. Therefore, the call to achieve a distinctive character for our contemporary arts is linked to the use of the accumulated huge artistic heritage in laying down the basic assets for the distinctive character of our design creations. This study aimed to analyze the indications of the joint ornaments between the Asiri, Najdi and Nubian heritage used in the study, describing the designs implemented with hand embroidery, drawing sketches, and identifying the opinions of specialized arbitrators in the field of clothing in the implemented designs. As well as to study the opinions of workers at the reception office of some hotels in Alexandria city in Egypt, and Jeddah city in Saudi Arabia in the implemented designs. The research followed the descriptive, analytical, and experimental approaches to achieve the research goals. The study included two samples which are arbitrators specialized in the field of clothing with a total of fifteen arbitrators, and a purposive sample of workers at hotel reception offices in Alexandria city and, with a total of eighty-one female workers. Some popular ornaments have been employed, which are found in Nubian ornaments (Egypt), al-Qat al-Asiri ornaments, and Najd door ornaments (Saudi Arabia). The results showed a high evaluation level for most of the implemented designs of costumes and clothing accessories from hotel workers in both study areas and utilizing Arab heritage values to emphasize and preserve the cultural heritage of the Arab people through modern formulation, providing uniqueness in touristic destinations.
