Abstract

The art of mural painting is one of the oldest methods of artistic expression known to man through the ages, to play its aesthetic, functional and cultural role in the lives of peoples. Contemporary mural painting also plays an important role in reviving visual culture in various human societies. mural painting throughout the ages was a mirror of culture and a reflection of different human civilizations.

The relationship of mural painting with architecture is an existing and inherent relationship with it, and the mural designer is keen to achieve compatibility between the architectural design and its functional purpose, and the mural design and materials used in implementation. Mural treatments change according to the different shape of the architectural surface, which forces the mural painter to find different and varied mural solutions to suit the shape and area of the architectural surface and the extent of the mural’s vision time, in addition to the importance of the mural’s content being linked to the function of the place. Therefore, the research is concerned with studying the aesthetic and cultural values in the mural treatments in educational buildings, whether they are schools or universities in some countries of the world, and the extent to which the content of the mural relates to the function and purpose of the place.

The researcher also aims, through the implemented practical experience, to present a mural treatment of the wall of the Department of Printed Designs - College of Fine Arts Alexandria university,
