Reviving the Embroidery Hoop Art to innovate Decorative Designs of Contemporary Women's Clothing

Abstract

Folk heritage is an important and fundamental component of civilization history, as it leads the essence of civilizations and proves them. (Amira Khalaf-2022-29)

Embroidery hoop art is an ancient folk embroidery art that is famous in Upper Egypt, especially in Sohag Governorate. Due to the scarcity of those who work using this art, it is about to extinct. Thus, the researcher aims to revive the embroidery hoop art .

To identify the decorative units of embroidery hoop art and the necessity of its reviving through contemporary designs for women's clothing, the research proposed 14 designs for women, innovatively used decorative units of embroidery hoop art. These designs were submitted to the specialists to select the best designs. According to the selection, the best five designs were made using embroidery hoop art. The implemented designs were presented to consumers for their opinions. Among the results were the statistically significant differences between the opinions of specialists in the proposed designs and the statistically significant differences between the opinions of consumers in the implemented designs.

The research used historical and descriptive-applied methods.

The research included a questionnaire and statistical analysis to evaluate the proposed designs according to a group of specialists in the field of clothing and textiles. Another questionnaire was used to evaluate the implemented designs according to a group of consumers .

The research concluded that the possible reviving of embroidery hoop art and innovating of decorative designs of contemporary women's clothing .
