The Role of Graphic Design in Reviving the Egyptian Folklore through Specialized Exhibitions

Abstract

In general, the preservation of heritage was and still is one of the objectives of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention of 1972, whose provisions were set by the UNESCO International Organization. Preserving and reviving the Egyptian folklore, whether tangible or immaterial, is one of the most important goals of sustainable development.



This research aimed to identify the role of graphic design in reviving the Egyptian folklore through specialized exhibitions, and to prepare a systematic plan to study the aesthetic and functional elements of the symbols of folk art and how to employ it in the design of specialized exhibitions and to emphasize the Egyptian identity through the comprehensive vision between the different artistic disciplines. As well as presenting a proposed design for a dynamic visual identity for a promotional cultural exhibition, including typographic patterns, color identity, and various applications for the scientific departments of the Faculty of Fine Arts, by drawing inspiration from Egyptian folk symbols and connotations in a contemporary and innovative way.



The study resulted in shedding light on those artistic and creative values through a proposal for dynamic graphic designs that include features of a flexible visual identity, distinguishing a promotional cultural exhibition pavilion that can be held under the title (SHAABI MISRI) with the support of Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University in its various departments, which represents a center for spreading and raising awareness, arts and culture in various disciplines of contemporary visual arts in the Egyptian society and on the global level.
